Nighttime Supplemental LED Inter-lighting Improves …
As for comparing the amount of carbon dioxideand oxygen between night andday it depends on how you look at the sampleregion. You can consideranything from the block you live on to the entireEarth. If you onlyconsider your block during the day, large amountsof carbon dioxide areproduced from higher activity levels with humans, animals, and driving ofvehicles. Additionally at this time, any livingplants are producing highamounts of oxygen. At night, plants take in carbondioxide reducing it'slevels; however, humans and animals are stillproducing it.
It has been known since the 1940s that it is the duration of uninterrupted darkness during a 24 hourcycle that governs developmental processes in angiosperms (flowering) plants, such as trees. A plant's developmentalprocesses are those such as dormancy, shoot growth, and flowering. A photoreversible pigment called phytochrome orcryptochrome reacts to the length of both the day and night periods depending on whether it absorbs red (625-760 nm) orinfrared (760-850 nm) wavelengths of radiation. Even a momentary flash of light during the dark period is enough to trigger thecondition induced by a short night or, conversely, a long day. (So called only because initial thinking was thatit was the length of the daytime that was important.) Trees as well as other plants are classified as long-day, short-day, orday-neutral according to their response to day length.

Plants make a lot more oxygen than they produceCO2 (remember: most of the plant's bodyis made out of carbon-containing compounds. Thatcarbon didn't get released as CO2during the night, but the oxygen associated withit did get released). I don't know when theminimum oxygen concentration is, but I guess itwould be in the early morning shortly after dawn,as you say. Incidentally, temperature does thesame thing, for related reasons (no energy comingin during the night...).
Photoperiodism can also influence leaf shape; surface hairiness (pubescence); pigment formation; autumn droptime; and root development, as well as onset and breaking of bud dormancy. Night lighting alters the natural photoperiod and so,upsets the plant's development.
(the terminal product of nighttime CO 2 assimilation)
Well, not really. The amount of oxygen the plants in your bedroom use at night is trivial. Think about the earth as a giant bedroom and you’ll see that animals would be in pretty big trouble if plants used up a significant amount of oxygen every night.
It is clear that most night lighting may not be enough to cause photosynthesis, but still can affect treesthat are sensitive to day length. Artificial lighting, especially from a source that emits in the red to infrared range of thespectrum, extends the day length and can change flowering patterns, and most importantly, promote continued growth long after itis safe for the trees to do so, due to a coming winter.

But you can find a difference in CO2concentrations in lakes that have a lot of algae. Algae are not really plants, but they dophotosynthesis and cellular respiration. Almostall of their cells can do photosynthesis, so theycan make a lot of oxygen during the daylighthours. At night, they are using up the oxygenlike crazy and making a lot more CO2. The CO2 combines with water to makecarbonic acid. Acids lower the pH of the water. In lakes with a lot of algae, the pH can changedrastically between night and day.
Plant which photosynthesis during night and how? | …
I have koi in outside fish ponds. At times during the long summer days there is an occurrence called an algae bloom where the water in the pond becomes filled with very small suspended algae. During the day there is no problem with the respiration of the koi that I have in the pond… but because the algae use up so much available oxygen during the night and do not add any O2 to the water…my koi in the very early morning hours before the sunlight starts photosynthesis of the algae run out of the amount of oxygen they need for respiration and are forced to breathe atmospheric O2 at the surface of the pond! They gasp for O2 out of the water from the atmosphere where there is enough available for them to survive. My point is in water ponds there is a semi closed environment where plants can use up so much oxygen at night that they force the fish to get their oxygen elsewhere. When days become shorter the algae bloom will naturally diminish if I wait it out and do not do massive water changes or resort to killing the floating algae with a chemical plant killer algaecide that will not kill my fish if used in the proper doses. Plants do use O2 at night and do not give off any O2 in darkness!

If it has to been done, Chaney recommends using mercury vapor, metal halide, or fluorescent lamps that orderof preference for artificial lights for trees. High-pressure sodium lamps should be avoided and even low-intensity incandescentare best excluded due to its high output of infrared and potential impact on some tree species. Light fixtures or luminairesshould be shielded so that their light output is directed toward the ground. This not only keeps the light away from plants, preventing their potential harm and also reduces light pollution, but also better illuminates the pathways for pedestrians andvehicular traffic by . In all cases, up-lightingand shining light over great horizontal distances should be avoided. Lights should be turned off or dimmed during off-peak hoursto avoid continuous lighting of trees, which has the greatest potential for upsetting normal growth patterns. If you're determinedto plant trees where supplemental night lighting already exists, select those with low sensitivity to light.

When teaching units on and or the , direct evidence of their occurrence is sometimes difficult to provide in a compelling form the laboratory. This exercise allows students to work directly with organisms and, via RUSS, an entire lake . Increasing concentrations in student built microcosms tested with water chemistry kits and daytime RUSS data provide evidence for photosynthetic activity. Decreasing oxygen concentrations in student built microcosms with fish and nighttime RUSS data provide evidence of respiration. The net balance of photosynthesis and respiration plays a major role in determining the level of oxygen present in lakes, particularly at depth in lakes. Oxygen levels at different depths differ if a lake is thermally stratified. Furthermore, as a byproduct of their larger will generally illustrate changes in oxygen concentration more dramatically than lakes which are less rich in nutrients and biomass.
