Ricard Pinsenschaum leads the MusTilt_VR project for ISRG. Currently, our research involves running a series tilt-gesture studies aimed at extrapolating generic user tilt thresholds and finding the most efficient accelerometer hardware configuration. In addition, we aim to formulate a comprehensive user model of gesture perception that will contribute to a tilt-gesture design framework.
The overall aim of the project is to allow users to intuitively interact with music sample parameters and effects using wireless tilt devices in Virtual Reality settings, and to develop Virtual Jamming and DJ tools.

Artem Razumov leads the GeSynth_VR project for ISRG. Our work is currently focused on how gesture can enable instinctive user-interaction with complex software sound synthesiser parameters. Key gesture design principles are extrapolated and undergo rigorous usability and user-experience testing.
The second phase of this project will involve rendering the gesture design framework in an immersive Virtual Reality environment, which aims to allow musicians and composers to intuitively interact with synthesisers in the VR world.

Joe Fitzpatrick and Allan Bell lead the DataSon_VR project for ISRG. This project is in collaboration with Shannon ABC and Applied Science, where we have built an open-source sensor kit compliant with industry standards for LIT’s plant growth chambers. In addition, a cloud-based access point is being developed for scientists to monitor the data remotely.
One of the primary innovations of this project involves the sonification of abiotic plant data, which incorporates key principles associate with multimodal presentation of complex information across two perceptual modalities, visual and auditory.

Ronan O’Dea leads the HistIR_VR project for ISRG. Currently, our research is focused on how the acoustic profile of historically significant spaces can inspire unique compositional approaches. These acoustic profiles are captured using high-end acoustic equipment.
Ultimately, this research aims to kick-start a movement to acoustically archive historical and heritage sites before their original profiles are altered or destroyed. The intention is that this acoustic archive will be accompanied by spherical photographic data and 3D models for rendering in Virtual Reality.
