what does plants produce during photosynthesis? | …

At night, when photosynthesis can’t take place, plants continue to consume oxygen but they don’t release any back into the room. Would that mean that plants really do compete with humans for oxygen?

Good article and all the stories that plants use massive oxygen during night are myths.

Six years ago, I read that the snake plant is one of four plants known to emit oxygen 24 hours a day. We have short and long snake plants, so I did not even try to write the names of the tropical-sounding names of the other three plants. Can you find out? I do know to wipe the leaves of waxy plants often to keep the pores from clogging.

what do plants make during photosynthesis? food or …

I have koi in outside fish ponds. At times during the long summer days there is an occurrence called an algae bloom where the water in the pond becomes filled with very small suspended algae. During the day there is no problem with the respiration of the koi that I have in the pond… but because the algae use up so much available oxygen during the night and do not add any O2 to the water…my koi in the very early morning hours before the sunlight starts photosynthesis of the algae run out of the amount of oxygen they need for respiration and are forced to breathe atmospheric O2 at the surface of the pond! They gasp for O2 out of the water from the atmosphere where there is enough available for them to survive. My point is in water ponds there is a semi closed environment where plants can use up so much oxygen at night that they force the fish to get their oxygen elsewhere. When days become shorter the algae bloom will naturally diminish if I wait it out and do not do massive water changes or resort to killing the floating algae with a chemical plant killer algaecide that will not kill my fish if used in the proper doses. Plants do use O2 at night and do not give off any O2 in darkness!

Well, not really. The amount of oxygen the plants in your bedroom use at night is trivial. Think about the earth as a giant bedroom and you’ll see that animals would be in pretty big trouble if plants used up a significant amount of oxygen every night.

What does a plant produce during photosynthesis - …

However, during the day, the amount of oxygen plants release as part of photosynthesis makes the amount of oxygen they consume for respiration seem negligible.

The acidity was found to arise from the opening of their stomata at night to take in CO2 and fix it into malic acid for storage in the large vacuoles of their photosynthetic cells. It could drop the pH to 4 with a malic acid concentration up to 0.3M . Then in the heat of the day, the stomata close tightly to conserve water and the malic acid is decarboxylated to release the CO2 for fixing by the Calvin cycle. PEP is used for the initial short-term carbon fixation as in the , but the entire chain of reactions occurs in the same cell rather than handing off to a separate cell as with the C4 plants. In the CAM strategy, the processes are separated temporally, the initial CO2 fixation at night, and the malic acid to Calvin cycle part taking place during the day.

What Is Produced By Plants During Photosynthesis?

All plants and animals on earth engage in a process called respiration. Respiration combines oxygen and the food created during photosynthesis to produce usable energy.

What Is Produced By The Plant During Photosynthesis? …

The connection to hot and dry conditions comes from the fact that all the plants will close their stomata in hot and dry weather to conserve moisture, and the continuing fixation of carbon from the air drops the CO2 dramatically from the atmospheric concentration of nominally 380 ppm (2004 value). If the CO2 compensation point is lower on the above scale, the plant can operate in hotter and dryer conditions. The limits are placed by the fact that begins to fix oxygen rather than CO2, undoing the work of photosynthesis. C4 plants shield their rubisco from the oxygen, so can operate all the way down to essentially zero CO2 without the onset of photorespiration.

Does cyanobacteria produce oxygen during photosynthesis?

Light energy is absorbed by the green chemical chlorophyll. This energy allows the production of glucose by the reaction between carbon dioxide and water. Oxygen is also produced as a waste product.

Does cyanobacteria produce oxygen during photosynthesis

Respiration refers to the metabolism of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide. In it is a positive term, a process vital to life. But photorespiration is an entirely negative term because it represents a severe loss to the process of using light energy in photosynthetic organisms to fix carbon for subsequent carbohydrate synthesis. By leading to the loss of up to half of the carbon that has been fixed at the expense of light energy, photorespiration undoes the work of photosynthesis.

Does plants produce more oxygen during ..

Green plants absorb light energy using chlorophyll in their leaves. They use it to react carbon dioxide with water to make a sugar called glucose. The glucose is used in respiration, or converted into starch and stored. Oxygen is produced as a by-product.
