20 Days Failed (kinda)
Wanted to post a quick update to the 20 Days/20 Pounds. First we failed at it. We managed to go 9 days without meat and sticking to fruit and veggies only. However, no meat in our diet at all just didn’t work. So, we are changing the rules in the middle and switching gears. The diet is still on going and far from over. However, instead of no meat at all, we are going to limit ourself to having meat only 2 days a week. When we do have meat it will also be limited to grilled chicken, pork chops and fish. No greasy food, no hamburger meat (sticking to veggie burgers), fried food, etc. So, the diet is still alive and going strong, its just the rules have changed.
Pulling meat from your life entirely is not an easy thing to do. One of our problems also happens to be that neither of us are really cooks and we always cook the exact same food all the time. So, eating a plate full of veggies started getting real old. The veggies won’t be going away and neither will the fruit, we will still be eating a ton of them to keep dropping the pounds, but a little grilled chicken once or twice a week won’t kill me.
I’ve also been getting focused on using the treadmill. I would like to spend time walking outside but weather isn’t that great around here right now. So the treadmill will have to do. I am going to step up my time and pace on it over the next week and get into a better routine of working out. The big thing is that over the course of the 9 days of fruits/veggies diet I did lose 9 pounds. I’m a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to finish the 20 Days but am happy that I managed to start dropping pounds and made it about half way through it. I would like to continue to drop at least 3-4 pounds a week and that is the new goal. I want to thank everybody for their comments, tweets, messages, etc.
Don't give up on it man and don't treat it like a failure either, it's tough stuff and just starting it is quite an accomplishment.
I'm sure once you pick up a variety of recipes you'll be able to really start cutting back on meat. If you do go with meat, perhaps limit it to fish since it's really great for your heart and mind.
Keep with it and grats on what you've finished so far
9 pounds is good!
You don't have to entirely cut out beef if you don't want to, just buy the lean 93/7 instead of the chuck. Have you tried Gidget's downtown? I hear they have a good vegetarian menu.
Good job on the treadmill! I tried it for 20 minutes on Monday at the Y and my legs were wobbly after I stepped off!
Thanks. It is a little tough starting out but now that we have, we are motivated to keep it going. I love fish and plan to eat more of it, my wife doesn't eat it, so gotta find a nice balance.
Thanks Monica. Melissa bought some ground turkey to cook with and see how that goes instead of beef. Haven't tried Gidget's but will check it out.
Yeah, always weird doing the treadmill at first, legs go all crazy afterwards.
